some luxury treatments to cheer you up, perk you up and help you feel better
about yourself and the weather!
Over the next three weeks, we’re going to tell
you just how Reds can help you banish the winter blues…
As you’d expect at one of the North East’s
leading hair and beauty salons, we can provide the right cut and colour to
create the best ‘you,’ but if it’s a treatment you want rather than a new hairstyle,
then our spa rooms are where you need to be.
One new treatment we’ve just introduced that is
already proving extremely popular is our new Dermalux Tri-Wave LED Phototherapy
machine. The Dermalux machine delivers a pain-free and very relaxing experience
that is clinically proven to treat a wide variety of skin concerns, including
acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis and can even help to reduce the effects of
The Phototherapy combines red, blue and near
infra-red light emitting diode or LED light sources. The blue light can also help
in the treatment of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) as it reduces
the amount of melatonin released.
SAD is also known as ‘winter depression’ because
the symptoms are usually more apparent and more severe during the winter.
We’ve had a great response to the Dermalux treatment, with popular
local blogger Sam Czwordon-Auld saying: “After one treatment my skin was
bright and glowing and so smooth to the touch. You’d think I’d had a peel or a
derma pen treatment.”
We have just taken delivery of a revolutionary facial machine Dermalux LED Phototherapy Tri-Wave that has received rave reviews in the national press and ringing endorsements from the celebrity world.
Our new Dermalux Tri-Wave LED Phototherapy
machine delivers a pain-free and very relaxing experience that is clinically
proven to treat a wide variety of skin concerns, including acne, rosacea,
eczema, psoriasis and can even help to reduce the effects of ageing.
Reds owner Susan Hall said: “We’re delighted to
be able to offer our valued customers this treatment which has been proven to
help your skin looking flawless, youthful and healthy.
“It was voted Treatment of the Year for five
consecutive years at the Prestigious Aesthetic Awards and has been very
positively reviewed by national newspapers and magazines.
“The effects are immediate. The therapy instantly awakens your complexion. After just one treatment your skin is incredibly hydrated, plump and radiant. Any redness or irritation is calmed. One treatment can make a real difference, but a course of treatments offers dramatic and lasting improvement in the appearance and health of the skin. Dermalux can also be used in combination with other skin treatments.”
What is Dermalux TriWave LED Phototherapy?
Dermalux™ Tri-wave LED Phototherapy is an
award-winning non-invasive hand and
facial treatment that uses narrow band, non-thermal LED light energy to trigger
your body’s natural cell processes to accelerate rejuvenation and repair of the
skin. It can improve a poor complexion, signs of ageing (including lines
and wrinkles on the face, hands or body) sunburn skin damage, pigmentation and
overall skin health. The Phototherapy combines red, blue and near infra-red
light emitting diode or LED light sources.
A unique, patented feature of the Dermalux
system is that, unlike other competitor LED devices, all three light
wavelengths can be delivered either as individual phototherapy treatments or
simultaneously and in any combination.
The system is available in over 100 clinics and
salons across the UK and Europe.
How does LED Phototherapy work?
As a result of ageing or skin conditions
healthy cells are compromised and unable to renew themselves normally. Our skin
has the ability to absorb certain wavelengths of light and use it as a source
of energy to activate specific cellular processes to produce a therapeutic
effect. It is a natural biochemical reaction similar to that of plant
Dermalux LED Phototherapy uses clinically
proven wavelengths to recharge these cells, energising them to heal quicker and
rejuvenate faster, promoting healing from the inside out.
The increased energy enhances cellular
metabolism that in turn builds collagen, increases elasticity, boosts
circulation, accelerates tissue repair or kills bacteria
Laboratory studies have shown skin cells can
regenerate themselves from 150 to 200 per cent faster when exposed to certain
LED wavelengths and hydration can be increased by up to 600 per cent. This
whole process results in radiant, youthful and naturally healthy skin.
Dermalux LED Red
Red light type works wonders for skin
rejuvenation and healing. It has a powerful anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory
effect on the skin. It is also an excellent treatment for sufferers of
sensitive skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema and psoriasis.

Skin is smoother, firmer and

Normalises oil production
UV-Free treatment for eczema,

Effective alternative to
Dermalux LED Near Infra-Red

and works synergistically with red light to achieve optimum rejuvenation and
LED Near Infra-Red benefits include:
Tightens and firms the skin
Scar reduction and prevention
Relieves pain and
Improves healing time
Dermalux Combined Therapy (Tri-Wave Therapy
with all 3 Wave Lengths)
For rapid and enhanced results, Reds can offer
combined wavelength treatments to target multiple concerns in one session.
How safe is the treatment?
LED Phototherapy does not use heat or chemicals
and the light does not contain harmful UV wavelengths and so cannot damage skin
cells. Dermalux provides one of the safest ways to treat all skin types and
conditions without risk of irritation, unwanted side effects or downtime.
Will the results be seen straight away?
Following a Dermalux treatment, there are some
immediate visible changes in the skin but most changes occur naturally over a
series of treatments. Results may continue to improve up to 4 to 6 weeks after
a course as the effects of LED phototherapy continue to rejuvenate and improve
the quality of the skin.
How many treatments are required?
This can vary with age, skin type and
condition. A single session of Dermalux is ideal an ideal ‘pick me up’ to
replenish vital hydration, restore radiance or simply to calm irritated skin. A
course of treatments taken in quick succession will achieve optimum results and
maintenance treatments may also be recommended.
What is Dermalux LED Phototherapy recommended for?
Environmentally Damaged Skin
Acne and Problem Skin
Rosacea and Redness

A TALENTED Sunderland apprentice has swapped designing computer games for designing hair styles.
Josh Chadwick, 24, of East
Herrington, Sunderland, completed an HND in video game design at Newcastle
College before deciding he’d prefer to work as a hairdresser than in computer
And he’s been so determined to achieve his goal, he’s currently working six days a week.
He’s learning his new trade here at Reds Hair and Beauty salon, while completing a two-year apprenticeship with South Tyneside College. And at the same time, he’s also been studying on an advanced, eight-week, barbering course at SB Barbering Academy in Sunderland. Which has gained him a level 2 in barbering, completeing all different types of male styles including wetshaves.
“It’s hard to fit it all in and
I’m really busy, but it’s what I want to do. I’m thoroughly enjoying working at
Reds, and I’m learning so much from the talented team here,” he explained.
“I’m also enjoying the
apprenticeship, but I’d heard about the intensive SB barbering course and
realised that would be another string to my bow. I’d like to help Reds strengthen
our barbering team, and this course will help me do that.
“Thankfully, my granddad gave me
the money I needed to pay for the course, and I’m so grateful to him for making
it possible. I’m learning everything there is to know about cutting men’s hair
– even how to give a proper wet shave.
“I feel like I’ve taken to it
naturally, and have been surprised how complex and scientific it’s been.
“The SB course is hard work and
at the moment I’m studying there four days a week and completing two days a
week at Reds. The college has been great and I’m trying to catch up with
college work on my one day off a week,” he added.
He went on to explain about why
he’s made such a dramatic career switch: “I suppose both career choices involve
creativity, but I just love helping people to feel better about themselves and
helping them to look good.”
Josh, who went to Grindon Hall
School in the city and is getting married to fiancée Helen Greenwell in October,
has ambitions to style both women and men’s hair: “I love styling women’s hair,
but I also enjoy cutting men’s hair too – not enough men take sufficient care
of their hair or the way they look, and I’d love to be able to help them.
“I was always interested in
computers and gaming, but when I was a teenager I went to a drama club In
Gateshead and helped with the hair and make-up and enjoyed that, so I think
that’s where the spark came from.
“I’ve definitely made the right
decision, I leap out of bed every morning excited to be going to work, and
excited to be helping people feel good about themselves.”
Susan Hall said: “We’ve all been so impressed by Josh. He’s hardworking and talented, and his commitment has been extremely impressive. He’s also friendly, approachable and clients love him.
“We’ve known him for a while as
he was a client – and his mum still is – and when he decided it was time for a
change of career he came in and spoke to our Salon Manager Greg Temple about
what he’d need to do to enter the hairdressing industry.
“We’re delighted he’s part of the
Reds team and predict a bright future in the industry for him – he’s a star.”
After receiving a wonderful review from a client about how
we transformed her hair after using too many box dyes we decided to look into
this and maybe offer a bit advice so you can decide if it is something you
should be choosing to do at home.
Box dyes definitely serve a purpose for some, those not
wanting a massive change in colour for example, those who know how not to over
process the hair, as eventually it will look dry and brittle if you are always
putting a colour all over your hair every time.
The professional service is not always in people’s budgets but often a box dye at home can become more expensive when you need that dreaded colour correction, which is far more expensive than just having a normal service in the first place. We are professionals for a reason we ensure that the right amount of colour and developer are used to suit the clients hair to prevent as much damage as possible, box dyes are already pre mixed and cannot be tailor made the same principal as one size doesn’t fit all neither does one colour, lots of underlying factors can change an outcome for example do you already have colour on your hair if so it won’t look the same as the colour on the box , on average they will lift 2 shades but what if this is too much and your hair isn’t in a condition to be able to take that lift, on the opposite end if it goes too dark can your hair cope without ruining it with a professional cleanse and colour correction when you do eventually need to visit a salon.
Stacey our senior stylist recently corrected someone’s hair
from too many box dies and here is what she said
“Lovely morning being pampered by the fabulous girls from
Reds! Thought I was being clever using numerous box dyes (not a good idea) so
turned once again to Reds to save the day! Which they did thanks to the amazing
Stacey. Her skill and wisdom turned my drab lifeless hair into a gorgeous
hairstyle which I can be proud to show off. Booked in for roots and and some
extra bits already and will definitely stay clear from the box dyes from now
on. A lovely bunch of staff who make your visit extra special and great value
for money. Thank you so much and see you soon x”
Box dyes can be done at home absolutely! just make sure it’s
right for you, do you need a full head colour or just a root touch up which can
be less damaging?
However we would always recommend using a professional
service for optimising that glossy healthy hair you really want that can be
tailor made to suit you.
