WAGs and World Cup widows
So here we are again… Every four years ‘him indoors’ goes missing for a month.
I say missing, but I know exactly where he is. I just don’t particularly want to be there with him.
He will be spending the best part of the summer sat in front of the telly watching our national team try their luck against the best of the rest of the world.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the wonderful World Cup is back on our screens, in our homes, and everywhere we go at the moment.
It’s so inescapable that it makes you glad it only comes around once every four years.
Don’t get me wrong – I’m singing for England and hoping Rooney and the boys can bring the trophy back home from South Africa.
But, as any ‘World Cup widow’ will testify, sadly it doesn’t stop with just the England games.
He wants to watch every single match he can, including those of Honduras and the Ivory Coast!
This means that I’ve got the choice of watching them with him (yawn) or finding something else to do.
Well, you know what? I say us WAGs – that’s wives and girlfriends, for those who don’t know the lingo – should enjoy the World Cup too.
We should all just leave them to it and make the most of the quiet time.
Let’s take a leaf out of the book of the real WAGs – while your partner is away, it’s time to play!
While they’re all watching the footy, we can shop until we drop and meet up with the girls for a chinwag.
If your partner is transfixed by the telly, why not take the opportunity to go and get a good pampering.
As he stresses and shouts at the screen, you can take lie back and relax with a calming massage.
While Fabio Capello’s team is making do with the physio’s ‘magic sponge’, you can treat yourself to something a bit special like a fabulous facial or a marvellous manicure.
And if he’s off watching the silky skills of a smooth Brazilian, you can get a silky smooth Brazilian of your own courtesy of a skilful therapist and a handy wax strip.
Use the World Cup as your excuse to take inspiration from the WAGs and try out a new hairstyle or two.
Follow in the footsteps of Abigail Clancy, Coleen Rooney and the rest of the girls and go for the ‘big hair’ look, packing lots of volume into your locks.
It not hard to do, but you do need to have the correct products to hand and the time to perfect the look.
Teasing your tousled tresses into wonderful WAG-like waves requires a hairdryer, a good brush and plenty of patience.
A good product for achieving this hairstyle is L'Oreal Tecni.Art Volume Architect.
The lotion thickens, texturises and protects your hair during blow-drying, and gives a natural hold and flexibility.
It will work for all hair types but is especially useful for creating volume and movement for those of you who have fine or fragile hair.
Unlike some hair sprays it doesn’t leave any visible residue, which means you can work and rework your hairstyle during the day.
But if you’re looking for a quicker result, or want to get a hairstyle like the best WAG in town, come and see us in the salon – we can give you a style to rival the top footballers’ wives.
And we’ve got plenty of ways for you to spend a relaxing day away from the football this summer – visit www.redshairandbeauty.com for a full list of our treatments.
