A festival of hair
So here we are again… It’s summer festival season and the country’s best-known event, Glastonbury, begins next Wednesday.
Are you one of the lucky few who managed to get a ticket? I wasn’t but, to be fair, if I’m going to a festival I want to do it in style.
I’m not one for sleeping in a tent in a muddy field for three days, with the noise, smells and dirt.
Give me a luxury hotel, a comfortable bed, and a bathroom of my own any day of the week.
I can fully understand the thrill of spending time in the great outdoors, but I just prefer to be able to leave it all behind as the day draws to a close.
I’d rather relax in a nice hot bath than live in fear of a massive downpour turning my field into an unpleasant mud bath.
But if you are heading off to one of this summer’s many festivals, and want to ensure that you look fabulous from start to finish, I’ve got a few handy tips for you.
It’s likely that you’ll be travelling light and limited on space, so choose your products carefully and only take the ones you really need.
This means you can forget about your straighteners, your hairdryer, and your vast array of products – it’s back to basics ladies!
There’s nothing worse than having out-of-control hair when you’re away from home, so you’ll need to take something that will let you pump the life back into lacklustre locks.
I’d recommend packing a serum such as L'Oreal’s Play Ball Silky Sunrise Serum Spray that will allow you to take control of your hair and smooth your style back into place.
You simply spritz it across your hair, run your fingers through your locks, and style as necessary.
It even comes in a cute pocket-size bottle, so it won’t take up too much space in your wash bag.
Spending a lot of time outside will be great for your suntan but, in the same way that you shouldn’t go out without protecting your skin, you also need to look after your hair.
While it might be hard to maintain your normal hair care routine when you’re living out of a tent and a rucksack, you can make up for lost time when you get back to your home comforts.
You can give your hair a boost of vitamin C by using a hair aftercare product such as Redken’s UV Rescue After-Sun Shampoo.
This product has a special complex conditioning system that combats UV damage, dryness and discolouration and helps to reconstruct and re-energise your locks.
But if you want to follow in the footsteps of the rich and famous, the best way to keep your hair away from harmful UV rays is to hide it away.
It’s not often that I’ll tell you to hide your hair, but in a festival situation it’s a case of ‘a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do’.
Take a tip from festival fashionistas such as Kate Moss and Alexa Chung and make sure your wardrobe is ready for any eventuality.
Alexa and Kate are often seen at the festivals sporting a variety of funky fedoras, to keep their hair hidden and healthy while they’re away from home.
To ensure that you’re at the cutting edge of fashion, but ready for all weathers, try and find a pair of beautiful Wellington boots that match your outfit and your choice of hat.
That way you can ensure you have a great time at this year’s festivals, looking perfect from head to toe.
