Different colours for different seasons

It looks like this summer is going to be one of the better ones we’ve had in recent years.

We’ve had a few really hot days in the past few weeks and, from the look of it, it seems like we’re in for more of the same.

There really is nothing better than basking in the sunshine, soaking up the rays and getting a nice tan.

But don’t spend too long in the sun and remember your sun cream, or you’ll end up going the particular shade of ‘lobster red’ that us Brits are famous for!

It’s also nice, while the weather is warm, to be able to throw off all the layers of clothing that we usually have to wrap up in.

It’s not often that we get the chance to go out wearing something light, bright and colourful for a change, so make the most of the opportunity.

If you’re like me, then your summer wardrobe will be a lot more colourful than your winter one.

Winter is all about browns and earthy tones, which look great when the skies are grey, but summer gives us all the chance to break free of the drabness and wear some really rich, vibrant colours.

And while you may have come to that realisation yourself already when it comes to clothes, it’s something that you may not have really considered when it comes to your hair colour.

Many women fill their wardrobes with clothes that work with their natural tones.

But it’s so easy these days to change your shade with minimal fuss, and a change of hair colour can completely change your look and bring out a side of you that you never knew.

If your hair is naturally a mousy colour or a light brown, have you ever thought about going blonde?

We’ve all heard the phrases ‘blondes have more fun’ and ‘gentlemen prefer blondes’, and summer is the perfect time to find out whether the sayings are true!

Or if your hair is dark but you want to lighten it up a bit, why not get some highlights put in?

You can spend the summer looking like a ‘surfer girl’ who has stepped straight off the shores of Malibu Beach.

It’s a quick way to revitalise your hairstyle without going the whole nine yards and changing your hair colour completely.

There are some great products out there to give you the summer shimmer that you’ve been seeking.

Redken’s Blonde Glam shampoo is perfect for those of you with blonde hair, as it detangles your locks and refines highlights to eliminate any brassy tones.

Or if you fancy giving your hair a special summer treat, you should try Shu Uemura’s Full Shimmer Illuminating Treatment.

This remedy is left on the hair for five to 10 minutes, during which time your tresses are treated to an infusion of vitamin A, essential fatty acids and musk rose oil.

The treatment adds shine and brilliance to coloured hair and gives it a glazed, polished finish.

One important thing to remember is that not every hair colour will suit every person.

If your skin tone is naturally pale, you need to consider whether changing your hair colour will leave you looking washed out.

That’s why I always suggest that people come to the salon for a consultation before doing anything drastic.

It’s better to chat these things through beforehand and get advice from our hair care experts, than make a mistake and turn up on our doorstep with a disaster in need of rescue.

Whatever you decide to do this summer, let’s hope there’s plenty more sunshine for us all to enjoy and let our hair down.
